Final Journal Entry

I’ve truly loved this course a lot, I have learned so much I don’t think I would have learned in my life if I didn’t take the class. I learned a lot through reading others experiences as well as concepts I've gotten through the teachings. If I had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what I have learned from this course I would share that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. You can be successful and happy in your work as long as you are doing your part as well. Some advice I would give to someone wanting to begin the entrepreneur journey would be that there will be struggles, fails, and downs no matter what. You just have to keep pushing. The longer you stick with it and the more you experience throughout the process, the more information and practice you will get to create those accomplishments and ups. The advice, direction, or caution I would give to someone thinking of starting their own business would be to go all in no matter what. If you have an ...

This week we read some articles as well as watched some videos. The articles we read were: an attitude of gratitude, identifying and exploiting the right entrepreneurial activity for you, and recognizing and shaping opportunities. The videos we watched were: Paths to an entrepreneurial career, avoid the wrong job, and acton hero larry north. I loved watching the avoid the wrong job video. It gave me a lot of insight into what we need to look for when job searching as well as in the interview. There are so many jobs I’ve had where I hate it and that’s normal if you’re just trying to pay the bills but there are times when it was so bad I should’ve left and I didn’t and could’ve avoided the whole situation if I had read this article before hand. I also really liked watching the paths to entrepreneurial career video because it showed me kinda how to get to where I want to go. Before taking this class I truly had no idea how to get started in this world, I just new I wanted to be ...

What I found from the first 2 pages in the article "What's a Business For?" is that virtue and integrity are vital to an economy because without trust and loyalty, people won't want to work with you. In the article it reads: "Trust, too is fragile. Like a piece of china, once cracked it is never quite the same. And people's trust in business, and those who lead it, is today cracking. To many, it seems that executives no longer run their companies for the benefit of consumers, or even of their shareholders and employees, but for their personal ambition and financial gain." I really like that it added this in the article because it really does show that we all agree there needs to be a change in businesses. Too often do we believe that they don't truly care about their customers and only themselves. Virtue and integrity should be more focused on in a company and I believe things would then run smoother. According to Charles Handy, the real justificatio...

This week we watched videos called: Is Work/Life Balance Possible, Balancing Your Life and Your Career Successfully, Hero's Journey Corey Bell, Financial Fitness, and Surviving the Entrepreneurial Life: Work and Family. I loved listening to these videos and gaining insight from lots of different angles. Some articles we read were: Formula for Success, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, and Attitude of Money. These were also interesting and game me perspectives I had never thought of before. In Attitude on Money it reads: "Let's talk about money: how to get it and what to do with it. To do that, I need to show you my two prescription glasses. This pair looks almost like clear glass, so it appears that if someone looks out of these they should see everything perfectly. However even these clear glasses distort the way I see things. When I look at your faces without the glasses, you are all fuzzy, especially after about row three. With these regular glasses, my visi...

This week we learned about dreaming and thinking big. I loveddddd this weeks studies because I have always been a dreamer with a dash of realism. This week we listened to videos called: think big, license to pursue dreams, and acton hero. Some articles we read were: the challenge to become, the heart of entrepreneurship, and your emotional fingerprint. I really enjoyed these articles and videos. I've found it very hard to find teachers or classes to teach about achieving your dreams, they are usually just very realistic and close minded from my experience but this class this semester has done the complete opposite and I am very grateful for that. Something I really liked in the dream big video was when Taylor Richards said: "So I challenge you, pursue your goals and dreams. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. And involve the Lord, you can do great things. And it's fun. I love my job everyday. Watching that video gets me excited to go to work. So I chal...

This week we learned about disciple leadership. I love learning about entrepreneurship at byui because they always relate it to the gospel while still making it relatable, I love it. There were 3 videos that we watched this week called: aspects of building trust, hiring ethical people, and leadership and capability. In Aspects of Building Trust I really liked how it explained trust in a work setting. You usually think of trust in relationships or personal life but not usually in a work relationship when it’s actually very important. It mentioned that there are 3 things when it comes to trustworthiness. The first was that trustworthiness occurs when you first of all trust others. The second was that there are two kinds of people in the world. And the last is that you need to default to ‘yes’. I really liked learning about this in the work place. It was a very different perspective than I have looked into before. In Hiring Ethical People I really liked how it talked about how t...
