Journal Entry 9
This week we learned about disciple leadership. I love learning about entrepreneurship at byui because they always relate it to the gospel while still making it relatable, I love it. There were 3 videos that we watched this week called: aspects of building trust, hiring ethical people, and leadership and capability.
In Aspects of Building Trust I really liked how it explained trust in a work setting. You usually think of trust in relationships or personal life but not usually in a work relationship when it’s actually very important. It mentioned that there are 3 things when it comes to trustworthiness. The first was that trustworthiness occurs when you first of all trust others. The second was that there are two kinds of people in the world. And the last is that you need to default to ‘yes’. I really liked learning about this in the work place. It was a very different perspective than I have looked into before.
In Hiring Ethical People I really liked how it talked about how to hire the right people for the job. It mentions how some people might be good for one job and not for another and that’s okay, you as a person that hires people are helping them find the best job to fit into for them. I loved how optimistic these videos are and how productive I felt listening and watching them, it really made me excited for the next few weeks of class!
The last video, leadership and capability was about how everyone can be a leader as well as a learned. I loved that perspective. I’ve never thought of myself as a leader and that was always really hard for me because I have always wanted to be my own boss, entrepreneur and have my own company but often felt inadequate because I don’t have a leader personality.
