Journal Entry 6
What I really liked learning this week was how important it is to prioritize family in your career. When I say “in your career” I mean that your career shouldn’t be a separate part of your life. Your family should be the most important part of your life and providing for them is important too but never putting work over them. I understand life can get stressful, especially when it comes to work but it doesn’t have to be. And I know it’s not that easy but you don’t have to overwork yourself, you can enjoy your job, and you can still have time for your family.
I grew up in a family where work was prioritized over the family and relationships and it was awful. Did we have enough money? Yes. But did we have good relationships? No. My dad would be gone most saturdays, my mom was the one picking us up from school, doing yard work, hanging out with us, doing homework, and my dad barely got home in time for dinner…at 8 at night. Long nights at work and dishonesty destroyed my parents relationship as well as my dad’s relationship with us.
As hard as it can be to juggle everything in life, you can do it. And if there is anything I learned this week from the articles and videos it would be to make family a priority and even to involve them in your career. I’m really excited to get married and start businesses with my husband and involve my future kids in it so we are all in each others lives and creating a healthy atmosphere. As excited as I am to create businesses I know what I should put first and i’m grateful for this reminder. I’m so grateful for this class.
